Oh, so you want a country style house?

Errr no! As the title suggests, we have had quite a hard time finding builders 1, that will build in Bedfordale and 2, that have houses that go horizontal on the block rather than vertical (if that makes sense?)...........
Our block is large so we don’t want a small frontage, we want the house to be horizontal on the block so you can see a lot of the house from the front. Pretty much every builder thinks because our block is in the hills we must want a farmhouse or cottage. No! We are only in our 20’s! We want a modern, suburban looking house that just happens to be horizontal on the block. You would think that would be easy eh! There are two or three display homes in Perth that fit this criteria so we visited them along with the 50 or so other display homes to get ideas. We narrowed down our builder list to include those builders who had at least built in the area before and were familiar with the associated site works and I trawled 6598 build topics on the homeone.com.au forum (absolute life saver).

Now another thing about living 1200km from civilisation is we have to wait until we visit the big city (ha! there it is again) to visit any display homes etc so that made it a little harder. We managed to get our search down to two and found plans we liked from both and set about making various changes/additions etc and waited for quotes.... and waited......

Now two weeks to wait for quotes in 'normal' time isnt very long but when you're excited and impatient about your dream home, two weeks feels like five!

After tooing (oh ive never written that word - it looks weird) and froing and bluffing and scheming for 'extras' we finally got an awesome deal and signed on the dotted line with Dale Alcock Homes on May 31st! Yay...... The original house plan is called the Mansfield, which I have nicknamed him 'Manny' for short, hence the blog name, Building Manny :)
